Why Oil Viscosity Matters

• BMW B46/B48 engines (2015+)

5W-40: The Performance Workhorse

5W-40 has long been the go-to spec for performance-oriented VW and Audi engines, particularly turbocharged ones. It's commonly specified for:

• EA888 Gen 1, 2, and 3 engines (GTI, Golf R, A4, A5, etc.)
• Older TDI diesel engines
• High-output or modified engines running elevated boost or power

The thicker high-temp film provides better protection under sustained high load — important if you're tracking your car or running a Stage 2+ tune. Many tuners specifically recommend 5W-40 (meeting VW 502.00 / 505.00 spec) for modified EA888 builds.
