OVERVIEW
022-103-139-B Genuine VW/Audi dowel sleeve is an original alignment component used at the mating connection that specifies this part number. Its cylindrical outside surface locates the joining components, helping maintain the designed relationship between their bores and mounting faces as the assembly is installed. This is a small but important piece of service hardware to account for when separating a matching engine or transmission assembly.
Technical details
- Original part number: 022-103-139-B / 022103139B.
- Genuine-part catalog nominal size: 16 × 13.5 mm.
- Hollow cylindrical sleeve; the original product photo shows the bore, outside locating surface and edge profile.
- Application depends on the specified dowel position and mating component revision.
- Supplied as one sleeve. Mounting bolts, sealing flanges, gaskets and mating housings are separate.
How it works
A locating sleeve establishes alignment at a joint before its fasteners clamp the components together. The bolts supply the clamping force; they should not be used to force an incorrectly aligned assembly into place. The correct sleeve is especially important when a component has been removed, replaced or rebuilt and the original locating hardware is missing or damaged.
Common reasons to replace
Replacement may be needed when the sleeve is lost during disassembly, remains in a discarded housing, has a deformed edge, develops corrosion on its locating surface or is damaged during extraction. A sleeve that no longer sits correctly in its receiving bore can prevent proper seating of the mating component. Confirm whether the repair instructions require new locating hardware before reusing the removed part.
If a joint will not seat, inspect both receiving bores, the installed sleeve position and the mating surfaces. A duplicate sleeve left in each half of the joint, damaged housing bore, debris or an incorrect component revision can all prevent assembly. Installing a new sleeve alone does not repair a worn bore, cracked housing or damaged mounting face.
Installation and service notes
Identify the exact sleeve location in the vehicle-specific parts diagram and workshop procedure. Match the original part number and nominal size, and inspect the receiving bore before installation. Seat the sleeve using the specified method without distorting its rim or marking the locating surface. Keep the mating faces clean and protect adjacent seals.
Check that the assembly aligns and seats as directed before tightening the mounting hardware. Follow the prescribed fastener replacement requirements, tightening order and torque for the joint. Do not transfer torque values or installation depths from another sleeve location merely because it uses the same OEM number.
Fitment
| Vehicle | Model years | Engine | Configuration | Application restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volkswagen GTI | 2010–2014 | 2.0L TSI turbo gasoline | Mk6 hatchback; specified engine/transmission alignment connection; Six-speed manual | Only the dowel position assigned 022103139B. Confirm the gearbox, mating components and original sleeve by VIN and repair diagram; nominal size alone is insufficient. |
| Audi S4 | 2018 | 3.0L turbocharged gasoline V6 | B9 sedan; quattro; 8-speed Tiptronic / 0D5; RHU, RJE or SHP where specified | Engine-to-transmission locating sleeve, original eight-speed mounting diagram position 12, nominal 16 x 13.5 mm. Match installed gearbox code and mating housings; one sleeve supplied, original diagram specifies two. |
Confirm the VIN, gearbox and exact dowel assignment before ordering. Other model, engine and transmission combinations require their own component-level verification.
