OVERVIEW
Restore the original coolant-temperature signal
06A-919-501-A is the Genuine VW/Audi coolant temperature sensor for the specified original installations. The sensor's probe measures the coolant temperature at its assigned location and supplies the corresponding electrical signal to the vehicle's control system.
Correct temperature information is needed for the control functions associated with that sensor location. A damaged sensor, poor connector contact or wiring fault can produce an implausible reading; diagnosis should confirm whether the sensor itself is responsible.
Technical details
- Complete factory number: 06A-919-501-A.
- Factory specification: factory coolant temperature sender, complete number 06A-919-501-A.
- Design: metal sensing probe with molded two-pin electrical connector, as pictured.
- Quantity supplied: one individual coolant temperature sensor.
One individual sensor is supplied. Retaining clip, sealing ring, coolant, housing and wiring are separate unless expressly shown as part of the supplied sensor. A vehicle can have more than one temperature sensor; match the original part number, connector and installation location.
Common reasons to replace
- Testing identifies an incorrect sensor signal at the assigned coolant location.
- The connector or sensor body is physically damaged.
- A diagnostic procedure confirms an internal electrical sensor fault.
- The original sensor leaks at a damaged body or requires replacement during the relevant repair.
Compare the diagnostic temperature reading with the appropriate test values and inspect the connector and wiring before replacement. Check the coolant level and actual cooling-system condition; a sensor cannot correct overheating caused by a mechanical cooling fault.

Installation guidance
Work on a cool, depressurized system and follow the vehicle's sensor replacement procedure. Capture released coolant, inspect the mounting bore and renew the specified seal and retaining component. Do not force or overtighten a sensor that uses a retaining clip.
Refill and bleed any affected cooling circuit as specified, check for leaks and verify plausible sensor readings with the prescribed diagnostic procedure.
