Common reasons to replace
Replacement may be required when diagnosis confirms damage to the turbocharger's rotating assembly, bearing system, compressor or turbine, or when the manifold or turbo housing is cracked. A failed or damaged turbo can contribute to reduced boost, abnormal operating noise, smoke or oil consumption, depending on the failure.
Verify the cause before replacement. Boost leaks, control faults, diverter-valve problems, crankcase ventilation faults, restricted oil supply or exhaust restrictions can produce symptoms that resemble turbocharger failure.
