OVERVIEW

The 06H-906-517-AE Genuine VW/Audi vapor canister purge valve controls the flow of stored fuel vapor from the evaporative-emissions system into the engine intake. The engine control module operates the solenoid to meter that flow when operating conditions permit. A valve that leaks or sticks can disrupt the intended purge flow and affect idle quality or starting.

Technical details

  • OEM part number: 06H-906-517-AE / 06H906517AE.
  • Function: electrically controlled EVAP canister purge solenoid, commonly identified as the N80 purge valve.
  • Connections: two vapor-hose ports and an electrical connector, shown in the source photos. Match the existing connector and hose routing.
  • Catalog replacements: 06H-906-517-K and 06H-906-517-T; verify the applicable replacement against the vehicle VIN.
  • Quantity: one new valve. Hoses, clamps, wiring and the charcoal canister are separate.

Common reasons to replace

Replace a valve that fails the prescribed leak, flow or electrical tests, sticks open or closed, or has a cracked body or broken hose connection. An internal leak can allow vapor flow when the valve should be closed. A valve that will not open when commanded can prevent the intended canister purge.

Possible complaints include an EVAP fault, inconsistent idle, or difficult starting after refueling. Similar symptoms can result from damaged hoses, electrical faults, a leaking fuel cap or other EVAP components. Read stored faults and test the system before treating a purge valve as the confirmed repair. An audible click alone does not establish correct sealing or flow.

Service notes

Inspect the connector, wiring and vapor hoses before fitting the new valve. Preserve the specified flow direction and hose routing, secure the connections using the correct fittings, and run the relevant diagnostic checks after installation. Do not substitute a different valve solely because its hose ports appear similar.
