Seal the assigned automatic transmission oil-cooler joint
09G-321-181 is the Genuine VW/Audi sealing ring for the specified transmission oil-cooler connection. It seals the assigned passage between the original cooler and transmission-side connection.
The cooler connection uses more than one sealing-ring size. This number identifies its own original position and must not be substituted for 09G-321-181-A simply because the numbers are similar.

One dry sealing ring is supplied. Oil cooler, transmission, other O-rings, coolant, transmission fluid and mounting hardware are separate. Match the original seal position and mating components before installation.
Common reasons to replace
- The cooler is removed and the procedure requires new seals.
- A leak is confirmed at the assigned cooler joint.
- The ring is cut, flattened or deteriorated.
- The original ring is lost or contaminated during service.
Inspect the cooler and mating surfaces for damage or corrosion. Check for leaks from neighboring passages and fittings. A new ring cannot correct a distorted cooler, cracked housing or an incompatible cooler installation.

Use the table with the gearbox and original cooler identification. The two common cooler O-ring numbers identify different positions; compare the original ring and factory diagram.

Installation guidance
Follow the vehicle-specific cooler removal and fluid-handling procedure. Keep open passages clean, renew the required seals and use only the lubricant specified for the seal. Seat the cooler evenly and tighten its mounting hardware as directed.
Restore fluid levels and bleed any disturbed cooling circuit using the prescribed procedures. Check the serviced cooler joint for leaks and verify transmission operation before returning the vehicle to service.
