OVERVIEW
Renew the original manual shift-cable connection
1K0-711-761-B is the Genuine VW/Audi shift-cable end, also called the Bowden cable catch, for the specified original manual transmission selector assemblies. The spring-loaded end connects the appropriate cable to its selector-lever attachment.
Wear or damage at a cable end can introduce lost motion or prevent the cable from remaining properly attached. Correct cable-end selection and adjustment help the selector operate through its intended range without replacing unrelated transmission components.
Technical details
- Complete factory number: 1K0-711-761-B.
- Factory specification: factory Bowden shift-cable catch/end, revision B.
- Design: molded cable-end housing with spring-loaded adjustment/retaining section, as pictured.
- Quantity supplied: one individual shift cable end.
The listing supplies one individual cable end. Complete cable, selector lever, gearbox and other cable ends are separate. Compare the original catch and attachment position; both cables do not necessarily use the same end.
Common reasons to replace
- The end housing or retaining feature is cracked.
- Wear at the attachment causes excessive play confirmed during diagnosis.
- The end will not remain secured to the original selector connection.
- The original end is damaged during shift-cable replacement.
Inspect both cables, their housings, mounting bracket and selector levers. Difficult gear selection can also result from incorrect adjustment, clutch faults or internal transmission problems; diagnose the linkage before replacing components.
Vehicle fitment
Applies only to the listed manual transmission configurations with the matching original cable-end design. Verify cable position, lever attachment and complete original part number.

Installation guidance
Follow the gearbox-specific cable-end installation and shift-linkage adjustment procedure. Use the prescribed selector locking method and release or engage the adjustment mechanism as directed. Do not force the spring-loaded catch.
Check that the cable is retained correctly and all gears can be selected using the prescribed stationary and operational checks. Recheck linkage adjustment if movement is restricted.
Ordering information
One individual Genuine VW/Audi shift-cable end, not a cable pair or complete cable assembly. Confirm original number, manual gearbox and cable position.
