OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi heater-control solenoid valve, part number 5Q0-906-457-K. This electrically actuated valve controls coolant flow in its assigned heating or auxiliary cooling circuit. It changes the flow path commanded by the vehicle's control system; it does not circulate coolant like a water pump.
Technical details
- Original part number: 5Q0-906-457-K / 5Q0906457K.
- Electrical solenoid valve with two coolant hose connections and mounting points, as shown in the original photos.
- Supplied as one valve. Separate brackets, mounting nuts, hoses and clamps are not included.
- Catalog supersessions include 5Q0-906-457-A and 5Q0-906-457-B.
- Location and coolant-circuit function vary by engine. Match the original valve, connector, bracket and hose arrangement.
- Some conversions from an older valve arrangement require an updated bracket and separate mounting hardware; verify the complete factory replacement instruction.
Common reasons to replace
Replacement may be needed for a confirmed coolant leak at the valve housing, a cracked hose connection, failed electrical actuation or an internal valve that no longer controls flow correctly. Loss of cabin heat or inconsistent heating can prompt inspection of this valve, but those symptoms do not establish valve failure on their own.
Check coolant level, trapped air, heater-core flow, the relevant pump, electrical supply, wiring and control commands. Inspect the connector for moisture and damaged terminals. A new valve cannot correct a leaking hose, blocked heater core or unrelated control-system fault.
Installation and service notes
Allow the engine and cooling system to cool before opening the circuit. Identify the valve's original location and hose routing, and confirm the connector and support arrangement before removal. Use the correct clamps and mounting hardware without stressing the valve ports.
Refill with the specified coolant and carry out the factory bleeding procedure. Check for leakage, secure mounting and correct heating or auxiliary-circuit operation. Follow any prescribed diagnostic actuation and fault-code checks after the repair.
