Genuine VW/Audi 8W0-971-636-D is an individual blue six-position flat-contact housing. It is the later replacement revision for the earlier 4D0-971-636-D housing. The Q5 application below uses this connector at the original dashboard switch connection associated with factory thermo-cupholder equipment. Other confirmed profiles use the same assigned housing in their original harness connections, including specified tail-lamp circuits; they do not share the Q5 cupholder function.

Installation and service guidance
Follow the factory electrical isolation, trim-access and connector-repair procedure for the affected switch circuit. Record the original contact positions and connector orientation before releasing the housing. Use the prescribed terminal tool rather than pulling locked terminals out by their wires.
Inspect the contact seating and renew separately damaged terminals or repair wires according to the factory instructions. Fit only the specified terminal system in the replacement housing and verify secure attachment at the matching original switch connection.
Restore the original wiring route without strain or trapped wiring when reinstalling trim.
