Common reasons to replace
A physically damaged sensing probe, broken retaining features or an electrically failed sensor can require replacement. An implausible outside-temperature reading, a reading that stays at an extreme value or an ambient-temperature circuit fault warrants diagnosis of the sensor and its wiring.
These symptoms do not establish that the sensor is defective. A disconnected plug, corrosion, damaged wiring or a sensor displaced from its bracket can cause a similar result.
