OVERVIEW

Original crankshaft vibration damper mounting hardware

The N-010-087-6 Genuine VW/Audi crankshaft bolt secures the specified vibration damper at its original crankshaft mounting position. The damper is part of the engine’s rotating assembly, so its retaining hardware must match the engine and factory attachment design. This M18x1.5x40 bolt is supplied individually for the confirmed applications shown below.

Technical details

  • Original number: N-010-087-6 / N0100876.
  • Nominal thread diameter: M18.
  • Thread pitch: 1.5 mm.
  • Specified bolt length: 40 mm.
  • Function: retention of the original crankshaft vibration damper at the specified engine attachment.
  • Previous revisions: N-010-087-3 and N-010-087-5 at corresponding original catalog positions.
  • Included: one bolt. The vibration damper, pulley and other hardware are not included.

The diameter, pitch and length identify the thread specification; they do not establish a generic replacement torque or authorize use on another engine. Compare the original number and the damper arrangement. VR6 displacement, valve configuration and later engine revisions can change the required hardware.

Common reasons to replace

  • Damper or pulley service: use replacement retaining hardware where the engine repair procedure specifies a new bolt.
  • Damaged tool-engagement surfaces: a rounded or previously damaged head can prevent controlled removal or tightening.
  • Thread damage or corrosion: damaged fastener threads can prevent proper engagement or damage the crankshaft thread.
  • Incorrect hardware from an earlier repair: restore the specified bolt instead of reusing a substitute with an uncertain length, pitch or bearing arrangement.

A loose damper, visible wobble or accessory-drive vibration calls for inspection of the damper, seating surfaces, alignment and crankshaft attachment. Installing a new bolt does not correct a damaged damper or worn mating surface. Diagnose and repair the complete mounting joint before reassembly.

Installation and ordering notes

Confirm the vehicle identification number, engine and original damper diagram. For the CC applications, the cited catalog lists BLV / CNNA engines and a production cutoff written as 06/12/11; verify that entry against the vehicle’s build information before ordering. Do not assume every 3.6L CC uses the same crankshaft fastener.

Use the factory crankshaft counter-holding method and the specified tightening sequence for the engine. Follow the instructions for fastener replacement, thread preparation, lubrication and any torque-plus-angle stages. Do not use a generic bolt torque or hold the rotating assembly by an unsuitable component. Inspect the crankshaft thread and damper seating surface, and confirm correct seating and belt routing after reassembly.
