OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi M16 x 1.5 tie-rod adjustment nut, part number N-011-164-17. At the listed steering locations, this hex nut locks the threaded tie-rod adjustment after toe is set. Retaining that adjustment helps keep the steering geometry at its specified setting.
Technical details
- Original part number: N-011-164-17 / N01116417.
- M16 x 1.5 thread; catalog nut thickness 8 mm.
- Flat hex nut with internal threads, as shown in the original photo.
- Supplied individually. Inner and outer tie rods, bellows and clamps are separate.
- Used as the adjustment lock nut at the listed tie-rod assemblies; not the nut securing the tie-rod ball-joint stud to the steering knuckle.
- Match the original hardware assignment and thread before ordering.
Common reasons to replace
Replace damaged or seized threads, corroded hardware, rounded hex faces or a missing nut. A nut that will not release or tighten correctly can prevent accurate toe adjustment and secure locking during tie-rod service.
Inspect the adjoining threaded rod and tie-rod end as well. Uneven tire wear, steering-wheel misalignment or looseness can have several causes; replacing this nut alone will not correct a worn ball joint, damaged rack or incorrect alignment.
Installation and service notes
Use the factory tie-rod procedure and support the vehicle correctly. Check thread condition and required engagement, start the nut by hand, and follow the specified tightening procedure while preventing unintended rotation of the tie rod.
After tie-rod replacement or adjustment, have toe and steering-wheel position checked with alignment equipment. Ensure the bellows is not twisted and the clamps are correctly seated. Follow factory renewal instructions for adjoining fasteners.
