OVERVIEW
Original stud for the manifold-to-downpipe connection
The N-044-512-5 Genuine VW/Audi exhaust manifold stud provides the threaded fastening point used to secure the downpipe at the original manifold connection. Exhaust components operate through repeated heating and cooling cycles, and sound hardware is necessary to clamp the adjoining flange with the correct gasket and fastening arrangement.
Technical details
- Original number: N-044-512-5 / N0445125.
- Specification: M8 nominal thread diameter and 30 mm specified stud length.
- Design: threaded stud for the original exhaust manifold/downpipe attachment.
- Quantity: one stud per item ordered.
- Not included: nut, exhaust gasket, manifold, downpipe and other exhaust hardware.
Match the original number and fastening position. Another M8 stud may have a different length or thread arrangement and may not provide the intended engagement at the manifold and nut. The original archive photographs show the supplied stud; the listing does not substitute a generic hardware specification for the factory part number.
Common reasons to replace
- Broken stud: corrosion or a seized nut can cause a stud to fracture during disassembly.
- Damaged nut-end threads: rounded, stripped or cross-threaded threads can prevent the nut from seating and tightening correctly.
- Damaged manifold-end threads: a stud that cannot engage the mounting thread correctly needs replacement and inspection of the receiving thread.
- Missing or incorrect hardware: an earlier exhaust repair may leave a flange with an unsuitable stud or an incomplete fastening set.
- Manifold or downpipe service: inspect the studs when the original flange connection is opened and replace any hardware that is damaged or requires renewal under the repair procedure.
A ticking noise or exhaust leak requires inspection of the complete joint. A new stud cannot correct a distorted flange, failed gasket, cracked manifold or damaged mounting thread. Address those faults before assembling the connection.

Installation and ordering guidance
Confirm the vehicle identification number, engine and original manifold/downpipe diagram before ordering. Count the studs required at the serviced connection and order the correct quantity. The nuts and gasket are separate service items.
Remove damaged hardware using the method appropriate to the manifold material and the condition of the joint. Inspect the receiving thread, flange and nut before installing the replacement stud. Follow the factory specification for stud seating, thread preparation and nut tightening; do not infer a torque or installation depth from nominal diameter alone. Use the correct tightening sequence to seat the exhaust connection evenly, and check the completed joint for leakage after repair.
