OVERVIEW
Original stud for the exhaust manifold attachment
The N-044-514-6 Genuine VW/Audi exhaust manifold stud provides the threaded fastening point at the original manifold attachment that calls for this part number. A stud remains in its receiving position while the corresponding nut secures the adjoining exhaust component. Match the original assembly diagram and the exact stud specification before ordering.
Technical details
- Original part number: N-044-514-6 / N0445146.
- Catalog specification: M8x25; 8 mm nominal thread diameter with a 25 mm catalog length designation. Match the original stud and its installed engagement.
- Design: threaded stud with distinct fastening sections at its ends.
- Confirmed application: original exhaust manifold stud position on the listed 2.5L Jetta SportWagen and Beetle configurations.
- Quantity: one stud. Nuts, washers, seals and manifold components are sold separately.
The stud must provide the correct engagement at both sides of the connection. Similar exhaust studs can differ in length, thread arrangement and intended mounting position. Do not substitute a fastener simply because its nominal thread diameter matches. Confirm the original number and retain the prescribed hardware arrangement.
Common reasons to replace
- Broken stud: corrosion and difficult removal can leave a damaged or fractured fastener at the exhaust attachment.
- Damaged exposed threads: a seized nut or previous tool damage can prevent secure reassembly.
- Damaged receiving-end threads: cross-threading or improper removal can impair the stud's engagement.
- Missing or incorrect stud: restore the original fastening arrangement after prior exhaust work.
- Manifold service: inspect the studs when the manifold or adjoining connection is removed.
An exhaust leak, ticking noise or loose connection requires inspection of the complete joint. A replacement stud cannot correct a warped flange, damaged gasket or stripped receiving hole. Inspect the sealing surfaces, adjoining components and all fasteners before selecting the parts needed for repair.
Fitment data sheet

Installation and ordering guidance
Confirm the vehicle identification number, engine and original manifold diagram. The table identifies the specific model, body style and engine combinations supported by the original-number catalogs. Count the studs required at the serviced connection and match the accompanying nuts and sealing components separately.
Allow the exhaust assembly to cool before service. Inspect the receiving threads and use the extraction or thread-repair method prescribed for the engine if the old stud is damaged. Fit the new stud to the specified installed position and engagement; avoid treating the exposed length as an arbitrary adjustment.
Reassemble the connection using the required gasket and retaining hardware, following the factory sequence and tightening procedure for that joint. Apply a thread treatment only when the repair procedure specifies it, because lubrication can change the clamping load produced during tightening.
After installation, check that the adjoining flange is seated correctly and inspect the repaired joint for leakage during the prescribed functional check. Correctly installed hardware is one part of a complete exhaust joint repair.
