OVERVIEW

Genuine VW/Audi self-locking collared nut, part number N-101-064-02. This original suspension fastener secures the specified rear eccentric adjustment bolt. The nut retains the adjustment hardware after the rear-wheel geometry has been set using the factory alignment procedure. Select it by the original part number and attachment position; it is not a universal replacement for every suspension nut.

Technical details

  • Original part number: N-101-064-02 / N10106402.
  • Published thread size: M12 x 1.5 — nominal 12 mm thread diameter with 1.5 mm pitch.
  • Hexagonal nut with an integral collar and locking insert, supplied individually as pictured.
  • The collar provides the prescribed bearing surface at the attachment. The self-locking feature resists unintended rotation when assembled using the specified procedure.
  • Selected applications below use this nut with rear eccentric adjustment hardware. The eccentric bolt, washer and suspension arm are separate parts.
  • Quantity required depends on the repair and mounting positions being serviced. One nut is supplied per order quantity.

Common reasons to replace

Replace the nut when suspension adjustment hardware is removed and the factory procedure calls for new self-locking hardware. Replacement is also appropriate for damaged threads, a rounded hex, significant corrosion, a distorted collar or a damaged locking insert.

A nut with damaged threads or a compromised locking feature may no longer provide the intended retention. Inspect the eccentric bolt and washer at the same time. Seized adjustment hardware, worn arm bushings or a distorted mounting point require repair of those components; a new nut alone will not correct an alignment problem or suspension play.

Installation and alignment notes

Support the vehicle and suspension according to the factory procedure. Record the original eccentric positions before disassembly, but do not treat those marks as a substitute for an alignment measurement after the hardware has been disturbed.

Confirm the replacement nut has the correct thread and collar geometry. Follow the specified instructions for new companion hardware, tightening order and suspension position during final tightening. Do not estimate torque from the M12 thread size or apply a specification from another suspension attachment.

When the eccentric adjustment has been released, measure and set the vehicle's alignment using the appropriate specifications. Inspect the completed attachment for correct seating and retention. The locknut does not compensate for a worn bushing, seized eccentric bolt or damaged suspension bracket.
