OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi socket-head bolt with washer, part number N-101-244-08. This original fastener retains the specified component at its mounting point. The selected applications below place it in coolant-pump, thermostat-unit and auxiliary-pump bracket assemblies. Its function depends on the actual attachment; it is not a complete thermostat, pump or coolant seal.
Technical details
- Original part number: N-101-244-08 / N10124408.
- Published nominal size: M6 x 20 mm, with a cylindrical head, internal six-lobe drive and washer.
- The recessed drive allows the fastener to be tightened at its specified mounting location. Use a correctly fitting drive bit to protect the recess.
- The washer provides the intended bearing interface at the attachment. Match the original assembly rather than adding extra washers or using a different fastener length.
- Supplied individually as pictured. Coolant pumps, thermostats, hoses, brackets, gaskets and other mounting hardware are separate.
- Some thermostat assemblies include this bolt. Inspect the contents of the replacement assembly before ordering separate hardware.
Common reasons to replace
Replace the bolt if its internal drive is rounded, its threads are damaged or corroded, its washer is deformed or it is missing after disassembly. Hardware that does not seat correctly can prevent the prescribed component from being retained as intended.
When servicing a pump or thermostat, inspect the mating threads and contact surfaces as well as the fastener. A coolant leak can originate from a gasket, housing, pipe connection or damaged component. A new bolt will not repair a cracked housing or a failed seal, and additional tightening can damage threads or distort the mounted part.
Installation and service notes
Follow the factory procedure for the specific mounting application. For work that opens the cooling circuit, allow the engine to cool and relieve pressure as directed before disassembly. Keep debris out of exposed passages and replace seals that the repair procedure requires.
Position the component correctly, start the bolt by hand and confirm smooth thread engagement. Use the prescribed tightening sequence, torque and thread preparation. The M6 dimension does not provide a universal torque specification, and specifications from a different pump or bracket are not interchangeable.
Inspect the completed attachment for proper seating and clearance. If the cooling circuit has been opened, refill and bleed it according to the vehicle procedure and verify leak-free operation after service. Confirm any companion fasteners identified as single-use are renewed.
