The collar forms the bearing surface under the head. Correct length and head geometry are part of the specified fastening arrangement. A generic M8 bolt may thread into the mounting point while still providing the wrong engagement depth or contact surface.
Common reasons to replace
Replace a missing bolt or one with damaged threads, a rounded head, visible deformation or corrosion that has compromised its condition. Renew mounting hardware whenever the applicable factory repair procedure requires replacement after removal.
During downpipe or exhaust service, inspect the mounting bracket, hanger and mating threads as well as the bolt. Looseness or rattling can originate from a damaged support, incorrect alignment or a different exhaust component. A replacement bolt alone will not repair those defects.
Check for a bracket that does not sit squarely, a damaged mounting hole or stressed exhaust alignment before tightening. Correct the underlying issue instead of using a longer bolt or additional tightening to pull the components into place.

Allow the exhaust to cool and support the assembly using the factory service procedure. Confirm the original attachment location and compare the replacement with the fastener specified for that position.
Position the exhaust and bracket correctly before starting the bolt by hand. Follow the required tightening sequence and specification for the exact mounting point. Do not calculate a torque from the M8 diameter or transfer a specification from another exhaust fastener.
Use thread treatments or replacement companion hardware only as directed by the repair instructions. Inspect receiving threads before assembly, and use a correctly fitting socket on the external hex head.
After installation, verify exhaust support, alignment and clearances. Check for contact with nearby components and investigate any remaining vibration or rattle. This individual fastener is not a complete downpipe installation kit or a gasket for an exhaust joint.
