OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi self-locking collared hex nut, part number N-102-723-02. This original M10 fastener is used at specified suspension attachment positions. It combines a hexagonal drive, an integral collar and a self-locking specification for the factory fastening arrangement.
Technical details
- Original part number: N-102-723-02 / N10272302.
- Published nominal thread size: M10.
- Self-locking collared hex nut, supplied individually.
- Cataloged replacement for N90619002.
- Control arm, mating bolt or stud, bushings and companion hardware are separate.
- Match the original part number and exact mounting position; M10 diameter alone is not sufficient to select suspension hardware.
The collar provides the contact surface under the nut. The locking specification is part of the original fastener design. Do not substitute an ordinary nut or add unrelated washers without support from the applicable factory procedure.
Common reasons to replace
Replace the nut when its threads or drive surfaces are damaged, it is missing, corrosion has compromised its condition or the service procedure requires new self-locking hardware after removal.
Control-arm replacement and related suspension repairs often involve disturbing mounting hardware. Follow the exact factory renewal requirements instead of assuming a removed lock nut retains its original locking performance.
Inspect the mating bolt or stud and surrounding mounting surfaces as well. A damaged stud, distorted bracket or worn joint cannot be repaired by replacing the nut alone. Suspension noise, wandering or uneven tire wear requires diagnosis of the complete suspension and alignment.
Installation and service notes
Support the vehicle and suspension using the prescribed repair procedure. Identify the exact attachment position in the factory diagram and confirm that the mating fastener has the correct thread and specification.
Start the nut by hand and seat the assembly correctly. Follow the tightening sequence, torque and any angle requirement for that connection. Do not derive a torque from the M10 diameter or use a specification from another suspension fastener.
Use the required counter-holding method where a joint stud would otherwise rotate. Do not rely on an impact tool to compensate for damaged threads or an improperly seated joint. Thread treatment should follow the factory instructions for the actual mounting position.
If the repair involves a bushing connection that must be tightened at a specified suspension position, follow that requirement. Complete the prescribed inspection and alignment checks when the serviced components or mounting positions call for them.
