OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi self-locking exhaust nut, part number N-102-861-08. This original M10 collared nut is used at the specified turbocharger and exhaust connection. It is supplied individually for replacement at the mounting position that calls for this exact hardware number.
Technical details
- Original part number: N-102-861-08 / N10286108.
- Published nominal thread size: M10.
- Self-locking hexagonal nut with an integral collar.
- One nut is supplied; mating studs, gaskets, exhaust pipe and turbocharger are separate.
- Match the original part number and attachment position. This is not a general fitment claim for every M10 exhaust fastener.
The collar provides the bearing surface beneath the nut, and the self-locking specification is part of the original fastening arrangement. Select hardware by the exact part number and repair position rather than thread diameter alone.
Common reasons to replace
Replace a nut that is missing, seized, has damaged threads or has a rounded drive surface. Renew self-locking hardware when the applicable factory procedure requires replacement after an exhaust or turbocharger connection is opened.
Exhaust fasteners experience repeated heating and cooling and can become difficult to remove. Inspect the mating studs as well: damaged or corroded stud threads can prevent a new nut from tightening correctly.
A leaking exhaust connection requires inspection of the gasket, flange, mating surfaces and assembly alignment. Replacing a nut alone cannot repair a damaged gasket, cracked component or distorted flange.
Installation and service notes
Allow the exhaust to cool and support components as directed by the factory service procedure. Identify the exact connection and compare the specified nut and mating hardware before assembly.
Inspect the studs and flange surfaces, install required replacement seals and align the components correctly. Start the nuts by hand and follow the prescribed tightening sequence and specification for that joint.
Do not infer a torque from the M10 diameter or borrow a value from a different turbocharger or exhaust assembly. Use lubricants, anti-seize or other thread treatments only when the applicable repair instructions specify them.
If a stud is damaged or the flange will not seat, correct that condition before tightening. Excessive force or improvised hardware can damage the connection and leave the joint improperly assembled.
After installation, complete the required leak and clearance checks. Verify that the exhaust is supported correctly and investigate any remaining noise or leak. This individual nut is not a complete exhaust installation kit.
