OVERVIEW

Genuine VW/Audi mounting bolt, part number N-104-514-09. This original M6 x 16 fastener is cataloged for the specified lower timing-belt cover attachment to the engine block on the BPY FSI application below. Confirm the exact mounting position and original number before ordering.

Technical details

  • Original number: N-104-514-09 / N10451409.
  • Published nominal bolt size: M6 x 16.
  • Rounded head and internal six-lobe drive, as shown in the original product photograph.
  • One bolt supplied. Timing cover, belt and other fasteners are separate.
  • Fitment below is limited to the belt-driven BPY FSI engine at the assigned lower cover position.

The timing-belt cover forms part of the protective enclosure around the belt drive. Correct attachment hardware keeps the cover seated in its designed location. A missing or loose fastener can permit movement, but cover damage and interference must also be inspected.

This fastener is not a timing-belt tensioner or an adjustment component. A new cover bolt does not correct belt wear, incorrect belt tension, damaged mounting bosses or a cracked cover. Match the actual part number instead of substituting another bolt solely because it has an M6 thread.

Common reasons to replace

Replace hardware that is missing, visibly bent, corroded in a way that affects serviceability, or damaged at the threads or drive recess. Follow the factory replacement instruction whenever the relevant repair procedure requires a new fastener after removal.

Timing-belt and cover service can reveal prior tool damage, stripped threads or an incorrect substitute bolt. Inspect the remaining hardware and each mounting point while the cover is accessible. Renew the bolt if it cannot be tightened and removed reliably with the correct driver.

Rattling or rubbing around the belt cover requires checking cover alignment, mounting condition and nearby moving components. Do not tighten damaged hardware harder to compensate for a cracked cover or stripped mounting hole.

Installation and service notes

Identify the engine code and the actual lower timing-belt cover position. The 2008 model year includes different engine arrangements; this confirmed profile applies to BPY FSI and excludes chain-driven CCTA and CBFA TSI engines.

Follow the factory access and assembly procedure for the exact engine. Inspect the cover, mounting bosses and threaded hole for damage, and ensure the cover sits correctly before starting the bolt.

Use the correct six-lobe driver fully seated in the recess. Start the fastener by hand in undamaged threads and follow the specified tightening sequence and torque for this cover attachment.

Do not infer torque from the M6 x 16 designation or transfer a value from another engine component. Follow the prescribed thread preparation and hardware replacement instructions for the actual mounting location.

Confirm that the fitted cover does not interfere with the belt or other moving parts before completing service. If the bolt binds or the cover does not seat normally, check the part selection, mounting alignment and threaded hole before proceeding.

This listing supplies one original bolt. It does not include a timing-belt service kit or enough hardware to renew every cover attachment.
