OVERVIEW

Genuine turbocharger cover-plate attachment hardware

The N-106-278-01 Genuine VW/Audi bolt secures the assigned cover-plate connection in the turbocharger assembly on the configurations listed below. The original multipoint drive and collared seating arrangement match the specified factory attachment.

The turbocharger assembly uses several different fasteners. This M6 cover attachment must be matched to the original location and complete factory number; it is not the separate M8 bolt shown in the same assembly.

Technical details

  • Complete factory number: N-106-278-01.
  • Nominal factory specification: M6 × 16.
  • Design: socket-head bolt with internal multipoint drive and combination seating arrangement.
  • Quantity supplied: one individual bolt.

The nominal specification describes the fastener itself rather than packaged shipping dimensions. Match the complete factory number, original attachment point and head seating arrangement. Similar-looking hardware elsewhere in the same assembly can differ in length, thread size or bearing surface.

Common reasons to replace

  • A bolt is missing after component removal or previous service.
  • The drive head is damaged or rounded.
  • The threads have been crossed, stripped or otherwise damaged.
  • The bolt is bent or its bearing surface no longer seats correctly.
  • A previous repair used incorrect substitute hardware.

Inspect the cover, retaining bracket and receiving threads before installation. A loose or distorted cover can require repair beyond replacing its fastener. Turbocharger noise, smoke or boost faults require diagnosis and are not proof that this cover bolt is the cause.

Vehicle fitment

Match the engine and original turbocharger cover arrangement in each row. The table identifies the assigned cover connection rather than every fastener around the turbocharger.

Installation guidance

Allow the exhaust and turbocharger to cool completely before working nearby. Support and align the original cover and retainer, use a fully seated multipoint tool and follow the factory procedure for the exact attachment.

Align the mating components before engaging the bolt, start the threads carefully and use the correct tool for the actual drive. Follow the factory tightening instruction and sequence for the exact connection. Do not transfer torque values between different applications that happen to use the same bolt number.

Check that the cover and retainer seat securely without contacting adjacent lines or moving parts. Confirm clearance and restore any components removed for access.

Ordering information

Supplied as one genuine bolt. Turbocharger, cover plate, retaining bracket, seals and a complete hardware kit are not included. Order the quantity needed for the original attachment.
