OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi steering column mounting bolt, part number N-106-447-01. This original internal triple-square fastener secures the steering column to its support bracket at the assigned position on the configurations below. It is supplied individually for column or bracket service.
Technical details
- Original number: N-106-447-01 / N10644701.
- Published nominal size: M8 x 30.
- Internal 12-point triple-square drive and collar beneath the head.
- Application: assigned steering column-to-support-bracket attachment.
- One bolt supplied. Column, support bracket and other steering fasteners are separate.
The column support connection locates the steering column in the vehicle. Correct mounting hardware helps maintain the intended seating of that assembly. This fastener is distinct from the bolt securing the steering wheel and from the intermediate shaft clamp bolts.
Different steering attachment points can use similar-looking hardware with different original numbers and tightening instructions. Select the bolt by the actual support bracket position and original part number, rather than by M8 thread size alone.
Common reasons to replace
Replacement may be required during steering column or support bracket work when the applicable factory procedure calls for new hardware. Replace a damaged drive recess, damaged threads, deformation, missing hardware or corrosion that prevents reliable installation.
Inspect the mounting connection when previous service has introduced an incorrect substitute or left a damaged fastener. Obtain the correct hardware for every column attachment position before reassembly.
Steering looseness, rattles or changes in steering feel require diagnosis of the column, support assembly, intermediate shaft and steering system. A new mounting bolt cannot repair worn column bearings, a damaged bracket, defective steering gear or play in a shaft joint. Correct the diagnosed issue before completing the mounting connection.
Installation and service notes
Follow the factory repair procedure for the exact steering column arrangement. Observe the prescribed electrical isolation and component handling steps when the work involves steering-column electronics or nearby restraint-system components.
Support and position the column as directed before releasing or installing bracket hardware. Preserve the required alignment and adjustment of the assembly; do not allow the column to hang from electrical wiring or attached shaft components.
Inspect the bracket mating faces, mounting holes and threads. Start the correct bolt by hand, then use a fully seated triple-square bit to protect the internal drive. A Torx or hex bit is not the specified drive interface for this fastener.
Follow the required tightening sequence, factory torque and any additional angle for this exact bracket connection. Use the prescribed thread preparation and replacement rules. Do not transfer a value from a steering wheel bolt or intermediate shaft clamp attachment.
If the connection does not seat normally, inspect column position, bracket alignment and hardware selection before tightening further. Complete the prescribed steering, adjustment and electrical checks after assembly, including any initialization required by the repair procedure.
This listing supplies one original column mounting bolt. Select other bracket or shaft fasteners separately according to the positions being serviced.
