OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi intake manifold mounting screw, part number N-106-494-01. This original internal triple-square fastener is specified in the intake-manifold hardware arrangement for the configuration below. It is supplied individually for manifold removal, replacement or associated mounting service.
Technical details
- Original number: N-106-494-01 / N10649401.
- Published nominal size: M8 x 65.
- Internal 12-point triple-square drive with collar beneath the head.
- Application: assigned fastener in the original intake-manifold mounting hardware arrangement.
- One screw supplied. Manifold, mounting support, gaskets, studs and other screws are separate.
The intake manifold hardware arrangement retains the manifold and its associated mounting pieces at their specified attachment points. Correct fastener selection helps maintain proper component seating, while the appropriate gaskets provide sealing at their interfaces.
Several different screws and studs can appear in the same manifold assembly. This M8 fastener must be matched to its original number and assigned position. It is not a complete manifold mounting kit and should not replace other hardware merely because its threads appear similar.
Common reasons to replace
Replacement may be needed during intake manifold service when the factory procedure calls for new mounting hardware. Replace damaged threads, a worn internal drive recess, deformation, missing hardware or corrosion that prevents reliable installation.
Manifold removal for replacement, diagnosis or access to nearby engine components can reveal incorrect substitute fasteners or damage from earlier repairs. Inspect the associated mounting surfaces and threaded holes before fitting replacement hardware.
Air leaks, rough running and manifold-related faults require diagnosis of the manifold, seals, controls and surrounding system. A new mounting screw cannot repair a cracked manifold, damaged gasket, defective actuator or stripped mounting thread. Correct the diagnosed defect and select any separately required seals before reassembly.
Installation and service notes
Follow the factory intake-manifold procedure for the exact engine. Prepare and disconnect the associated hoses, electrical connections and mounting pieces as directed, and prevent dirt or loose hardware from entering exposed intake ports.
Identify the assigned N10649401 mounting position before installing the screw. Inspect the mating threads and component contact surfaces. Position the manifold and support arrangement correctly and start the fastener by hand.
Use a fully seated triple-square bit to protect the internal drive. A Torx or hex bit is not the specified interface for this screw. Do not use tightening force to draw a misaligned manifold or support into place.
Follow the specified tightening sequence, torque and any additional angle for this exact attachment. Use the factory thread preparation and hardware replacement requirements; do not infer torque from M8 x 65 or transfer a value from another manifold screw.
Renew gaskets and related seals wherever the repair procedure calls for replacement. A correctly installed screw does not substitute for the proper sealing components or correct manifold seating.
Reconnect the original hoses and electrical connectors, then perform the prescribed intake leak and operating checks after assembly. Confirm that all mounting positions have the correct hardware. This listing supplies one original screw; select the additional fasteners and repair parts separately.
