OVERVIEW

Genuine VW/Audi rear wiper arm self-locking nut, part number N-900-744-04. This original M8 hex nut retains the rear wiper arm at its assigned connection to the wiper motor on the Avant configurations below. It is supplied individually for replacement of missing or damaged retaining hardware.

Technical details

  • Original number: N-900-744-04 / N90074404.
  • Published nominal thread size: M8.
  • Self-locking hex nut with external wrenching flats.
  • Specified application: Avant rear wiper arm-to-motor attachment.
  • One nut supplied. Wiper arm, cap, blade, motor and related seals are separate.

The retaining nut keeps the wiper arm seated on its motor attachment. Correct hardware and arm positioning help preserve the original wiping arrangement. This nut does not replace the arm, motor spindle or the separate cover cap that protects the mounting area.

Rear wiper hardware can differ by body style and original assembly. Match N90074404 at the actual mounting point instead of choosing solely by nominal thread size. The confirmed profiles below apply to the rear wiper on an Avant wagon.

Common reasons to replace

Replace a missing nut, damaged threads, rounded wrenching flats, deformation or corrosion that prevents reliable installation. Inspect the fastener during wiper arm or motor service and renew it whenever the applicable factory procedure calls for new self-locking hardware.

Earlier work may leave an incorrect substitute or a damaged nut beneath the arm cap. Inspect the complete mounting arrangement before refitting the rear arm and select the correct cap and related hardware separately if they are missing or damaged.

A loose arm or incorrect sweep requires inspection of the arm seating, spindle, retaining hardware and motor operation. A new nut cannot repair stripped arm engagement, a damaged motor spindle, a seized arm or a defective wiper motor.

Streaking or poor clearing can also arise from blade wear, glass contamination, arm condition or washer-system faults. Diagnose those components rather than tightening the nut beyond the factory requirement in an attempt to correct the wiping problem.

Installation and service notes

Follow the factory rear wiper procedure for the exact vehicle. Establish the specified parked position and protect the rear glass while removing the cap and arm hardware. Use the approved method for releasing a stuck arm without loading the glass or damaging the spindle.

Inspect the arm attachment and mating threads. Correct worn or damaged components before assembly, and position the arm at its prescribed park location. Start the nut by hand on undamaged threads without cross-threading.

Use the correct hex tool and apply the factory tightening requirement for this rear arm connection. Follow the specified hardware replacement instructions. Do not transfer a tightening value from a front wiper arm or another M8 attachment.

Do not use excessive tightening force to compensate for damaged arm engagement or an incorrectly seated arm. If the attachment fails to seat normally, inspect the arm and motor spindle before continuing.

Refit the appropriate cap and complete the required wiper operating checks. Confirm the arm parks correctly, clears the intended area and has the specified clearance throughout its sweep. Check washer operation when that system has been disturbed during service.

This listing supplies one original retaining nut. Wiper blade, arm, motor and other service components must be selected separately for the repair.
