OVERVIEW
Restore the threaded attachment in the rear lid
N-905-710-02 is the Genuine VW/Audi rivet nut assigned to the rear lid and locking-system assembly on the Golf applications below. It creates the captive threaded receiving point at the original mounting position.
The rivet insert must grip its mounting opening securely so the mating screw can hold the connected component. A spinning or damaged insert can prevent proper tightening even when the screw itself is in good condition.
Technical details
- Complete factory number: N-905-710-02.
- Factory specification: M6; complete factory designation M6/0.7–3.
- Design: flanged rivetted threaded insert.
- Quantity supplied: one individual rivet nut.
Match the complete factory insert number and original body attachment. M6 identifies the receiving thread size; the complete insert geometry and setting requirements also determine suitability.
Common reasons to replace
- The insert spins in its mounting opening.
- The internal thread is stripped or cross-threaded.
- The insert is missing after rear lid repair.
- The flange or insert body is deformed.
- The factory repair procedure calls for a replacement insert.
Inspect the receiving hole and surrounding metal before installation. An enlarged, cracked or distorted opening may prevent the replacement insert from holding and needs the specified body repair.

Installation guidance
Use the factory body repair procedure and a suitable rivet-nut setting tool. Prepare the receiving opening, set the insert to the required specification and restore any disturbed corrosion protection.
Confirm the insert is seated and secure before assembling the matching attachment. Recheck locking-system operation and trim seating after the repair.
Ordering information
Sold individually as one genuine rivet nut. The assembly catalog shows two inserts; order the repair quantity required. Rear lid, lock components, mating screws and installation tools are separate.
