OVERVIEW
Genuine manual-transmission flange retaining ring
The N-906-353-01 Genuine VW/Audi securing ring retains the assigned component in the original differential and flanged-shaft assembly on the six-speed manual applications listed below.
The original assembly also contains tapered rings, thrust washers, springs and protective rings. These components have separate roles and dimensions. Match the complete factory number and diagram position instead of selecting by general ring appearance.
Technical details
- Complete factory number: N-906-353-01.
- Factory specification: nominal 30.5.
- Design: open securing ring for the original transmission flange retention groove.
- Quantity supplied: one individual retaining ring.
The nominal catalog specification identifies the ring rather than its packaged shipping dimensions. Groove geometry and retained-part configuration determine the correct ring. A generic circlip of approximately similar diameter is not an equivalent selection.
Common reasons to replace
- The ring is missing after differential or flange disassembly.
- The ring has become distorted or overstretched during removal.
- The ring no longer seats fully in its correct groove.
- The ring edges or retained component are damaged.
- The factory procedure requires a new securing ring during reassembly.
Inspect the retention groove, shaft and adjoining washers or tapered rings. A replacement ring cannot repair a worn groove or damaged flange. Transmission leakage, noise or axial movement require diagnosis of the complete assembly.
Vehicle fitment
All rows require PR G0K and the original six-speed manual differential/flange arrangement. DSG, conventional automatic and five-speed manual gearboxes are excluded from these rows.
| Vehicle | Model years | Engine | Configuration | Application restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Excludes DSG, torque-converter automatic and five-speed manual transmissions. |
Installation guidance
Follow the factory procedure for the exact gearbox and flange assembly. Preserve the prescribed order of the rings, washers and springs, protect the shaft and groove from damage, and use the specified retaining-ring installation tools. Avoid expanding the ring more than necessary.
Confirm that the ring seats completely in its intended groove and perform the prescribed flange retention and movement checks. Restore seals, lubricant level and any components disturbed during access according to the gearbox service procedure.
Ordering information
Supplied as one genuine retaining ring. Flange, differential, shaft, springs, washers, seals, lubricant and a complete repair kit are not included. Confirm the number required for the specific assembly.
