OVERVIEW

Genuine VW/Audi spring band hose clamp, part number N-906-870-01. This original clamp has a published nominal size of 27 x 12 mm. In the confirmed GTI configurations below, it is cataloged with the heater-core supply/return hose hardware. One clamp is supplied.

Technical details

  • Original number: N-906-870-01 / N90687001.
  • Published nominal size: 27 x 12 mm.
  • Spring band construction with tabs for the appropriate clamp tool.
  • Assigned application in these profiles: factory heater-core supply/return hose arrangement.
  • Hose, heater core, other clamps and related components are separate.

The band applies spring pressure around the assigned hose connection. It retains the hose against its fitting when the hose, fitting and clamp are in serviceable condition and the clamp is correctly positioned.

The published clamp size is not a universal hose inside-diameter specification. Match the original number and actual connection, including the hose outside diameter. Different hoses in the same engine assembly can require different clamp sizes and styles.

Common reasons to replace

Replace missing clamps, broken or deformed tabs, damaged bands, significant corrosion or clamps that no longer grip the assigned hose reliably. Inspect the clamp during heater hose or heater-core service and renew it whenever the applicable factory procedure requires replacement.

Earlier repairs may leave an unsuitable worm-drive clamp or the wrong spring band size. Check the complete connection before fitting original hardware. A damaged hose or fitting must also be corrected rather than relying on a new clamp to conceal the defect.

Coolant leakage or loss of heater performance requires diagnosis of the hoses, heater core, coolant fittings and cooling system. A new clamp cannot repair a cracked hose, damaged fitting or leaking heater core. Repair the diagnosed defect and inspect adjacent coolant hoses during the work.

Installation and service notes

Follow the factory procedure for the exact heater hose arrangement. Work only after the engine and coolant have cooled. Follow the prescribed coolant pressure-release, draining and access steps. Record the original routing and assigned connection before removing hoses.

Use the appropriate spring-clamp pliers and control the tabs while expanding the band. Do not over-expand or twist the clamp. Protect nearby components and avoid damaging the hose while moving the hardware.

Inspect the hose ends and fitting surfaces. Replace split, hardened or otherwise damaged hose as indicated by the repair procedure. Seat the correct hose fully on its assigned fitting before positioning the clamp at the specified location.

Release the clamp evenly so the band sits correctly around the connection. Check that the clamp is not skewed and its tabs have the required clearance. Do not install an incorrect size simply because it can be stretched over the hose.

Spring band clamps do not use a screw-tightening torque. Follow the factory seating and positioning requirements for this connection rather than applying instructions intended for a worm-drive clamp.

After assembly, verify hose routing, clamp seating and clearance, then refill and bleed the coolant system as specified, and complete the required operating and leak checks. Diagnose any remaining heater or coolant symptoms separately.

This listing supplies one original clamp. Select the hose, heater core and other connection hardware separately for the repair.
