OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi Power Steering Banjo Bolt
N-908-093-02 is a hollow M16 × 1.5 banjo bolt used at its designated hydraulic steering connection. Its internal fluid passage and cross-drilled opening allow fluid to travel through the banjo fitting while the threaded bolt secures the connection. Unlike an ordinary solid fastener, it is part of the fluid path, so the correct original bolt specification and mating fitting are essential. One individual bolt is supplied.
Technical details
- OEM number: N-908-093-02 / N90809302.
- Thread specification: M16 × 1.5.
- Construction: Hollow fluid-transfer bolt with a cross-drilled passage and external hexagon head.
- Assigned application: Original hydraulic steering connection that specifies this part number; reference 8 in the documented hose assembly.
- Previous revision: N90809301 is listed as a previous revision. Confirm the applicable replacement number against the original vehicle assembly.
- Supply: One bolt. Sealing rings, steering hoses, rack, reservoir and hydraulic fluid are separate items.
Common reasons to replace
Replace a bolt with damaged threads, a rounded drive head, significant corrosion, a damaged sealing contact surface or a restricted fluid passage. Replacement may also be appropriate during hose or steering-rack service when the original hardware is damaged or the repair procedure calls for renewed components. Fluid seepage at a banjo joint does not automatically mean the bolt is defective: worn sealing rings, a damaged fitting, damaged rack threads or incorrect assembly can also cause a leak. Inspect the complete connection before deciding which components are required.
Installation and service notes
Identify the original steering system, hose connection and full bolt number before ordering. A matching thread size alone does not establish suitability: the fluid passage, fitting geometry and designated connection must also match. Keep the hydraulic circuit and replacement hardware clean during service. Inspect the banjo fitting, mating threads and sealing surfaces, and use the correct new sealing rings where required by the original repair procedure. Do not substitute a solid bolt or reuse damaged sealing hardware.
Start the bolt by hand to avoid cross-threading, then follow the vehicle-specific tightening procedure. Do not use additional tightening as a substitute for repairing a damaged sealing surface. After assembly, replenish and bleed the hydraulic system according to the applicable service instructions, verify the fluid level and check the repaired joint for leakage. Hydraulic fluid specification and tightening torque depend on the original application and are not supplied with this bolt.
Vehicle fitment
The following profiles cover the documented original hydraulic-steering assembly. They require the designated M16 × 1.5 banjo connection specifying N90809302. Confirm the hose, rack and original hardware by VIN; model year alone is insufficient, particularly where a different vehicle generation or steering system was offered.
| Vehicle | Model years | Engine | Configuration | Application restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volkswagen Golf | 1999–2002 | Match installed engine and original hydraulic steering connection | Mk4 / 1J; left-hand drive; Match original steering hose/rack assembly; gearbox alone does not determine fitment | Only the M16 × 1.5 hollow bolt at hydraulic steering connection position 8 where the original catalog specifies N90809302. Verify hose, steering rack and VIN; excludes electric power steering. |
| Volkswagen Golf | 2003–2006 | Match installed engine and original hydraulic steering connection | Mk4 / 1J; left-hand drive; Match original steering hose/rack assembly; gearbox alone does not determine fitment | Only the M16 × 1.5 hollow bolt at hydraulic steering connection position 8 where the original catalog specifies N90809302. Verify hose, steering rack and VIN; excludes electric power steering. |
| Volkswagen Jetta | 1999–2005 | Match installed engine and original hydraulic steering connection | Mk4 / 1J; left-hand drive; excludes Mk5 / 1K; Match original steering hose/rack assembly; gearbox alone does not determine fitment | Only the M16 × 1.5 hollow bolt at hydraulic steering connection position 8 where the original catalog specifies N90809302. Verify hose, steering rack and VIN; excludes electric power steering. |
| Volkswagen R32 | 2004 | 3.2L VR6 gasoline | Mk4 / 1J; 4Motion; left-hand drive; Match original steering hose/rack assembly; gearbox alone does not determine fitment | Only the M16 × 1.5 hollow bolt at hydraulic steering connection position 8 where the original catalog specifies N90809302. Verify hose, steering rack and VIN; excludes electric power steering. |
Match N90809302 to the original connection before ordering. This bolt does not fit an electric power-steering system simply because the model name is the same.
