OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi front strut pinch bolt, part number N-909-548-02. This original fastener secures the front strut at the steering knuckle clamp connection on the configurations below. One bolt is supplied; the matching retaining nut is separate.
Technical details
- Original number: N-909-548-02 / N90954802.
- Published nominal size: M12 x 1.5 x 80.
- Internal multi-point drive and flanged head.
- Assigned application: front strut-to-steering-knuckle clamp attachment.
- Strut, knuckle, locking nut and other suspension hardware are separate.
The bolt and prescribed nut close the knuckle clamp around the correctly positioned strut tube. This connection is separate from the upper strut mount-to-body fasteners and the piston rod nut. Correct thread, length and assigned position matter; another M12 bolt is not automatically interchangeable.
Match N90954802 to the installed knuckle and strut arrangement before ordering. Approved replacement suspension components may include specific hardware instructions. A factory part number identifies the intended fastener but does not establish compatibility with every modified suspension arrangement.
Common reasons to replace
Inspect the bolt when removing the strut for shock, spring, knuckle or related suspension service. Renew removed hardware wherever the factory or approved component procedure requires replacement, and select the prescribed locking nut separately.
Replace damaged threads, rounded internal drive features, deformation, missing hardware or corrosion that prevents proper seating and tightening. A previously repaired suspension may contain an incorrect length or damaged fastener.
Inspect the knuckle clamp, mating nut and strut tube along with the bolt. A new bolt cannot repair a cracked knuckle, damaged clamp, incorrectly seated strut or worn shock absorber. Correct the diagnosed component defect before assembly.
Clunks, steering changes, uneven tire wear or poor damping require diagnosis of the complete suspension. Replacing this fastener alone does not correct a worn mount, failed damper, damaged spring or alignment setting.
Installation and service notes
Follow the factory front strut procedure for the exact vehicle and suspension. Support the vehicle and suspension components as prescribed before releasing the attachment. Use the approved tools and method to remove or install the strut without damaging the knuckle clamp or nearby components.
Inspect the strut seating position and clamp surfaces, then assemble the connection with the specified hardware. Start the fastener in its correct position without forcing a misaligned component into place. Do not use the bolt to compensate for an incorrectly installed strut.
Use the correct multi-point tool fully engaged in the drive recess. Install the prescribed nut and follow the tightening torque, additional angle and thread preparation specified for this exact attachment. Observe the applicable replacement instructions.
Do not transfer tightening values from the upper strut mount, tie rod end or another M12 fastener. Stop if the connection will not seat normally and inspect the hardware, component alignment and clamp condition.
Complete the required suspension, clearance and alignment checks after service. Confirm correct routing of brake hoses and sensor wiring around the strut and knuckle. This listing supplies one original pinch bolt; obtain the retaining nut and other suspension service parts separately.
