OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi DSG transmission drain plug with seal, part number N-909-654-01. This original plug closes its assigned drain attachment in the DQ381 transmission arrangement on the configuration below. One plug with sealing ring is supplied.
Technical details
- Original number: N-909-654-01 / N90965401.
- Published nominal size: M12 x 1.5 x 12.
- Internal hex drive, shouldered head and separate sealing ring.
- Listed application: specified DQ381 seven-speed DSG drain attachment.
- Transmission fluid, filter, filter seal and other service plugs are separate.
The plug closes the assigned threaded opening while the sealing ring forms the prescribed sealing interface at the seat. Correct plug length, thread and seal selection matter. This attachment is separate from the larger transmission fill plug and its sealing ring.
Match N90965401 to the actual gearbox and service position before ordering. Do not select it solely because a vehicle has a DSG transmission. DSG designs use different service hardware, and the same vehicle model can have different transmissions.
Common reasons to replace
Inspect the plug and seal during the prescribed transmission fluid service or work that opens this drain position. Replace damaged threads, rounded internal drive features, a deformed sealing surface or corrosion that interferes with correct installation. Renew seals and removed hardware as required by the exact gearbox procedure.
Previous service may leave an incorrect plug, unsuitable sealing ring or damaged seat. Compare the original hardware and inspect the threaded opening before reassembly.
A leak near the plug requires diagnosis of the sealing ring, seat, plug and surrounding transmission components. A new plug cannot repair stripped case threads, a cracked housing, damaged sealing seat or leakage from another connection. Repair the diagnosed defect before refilling.
Shift quality changes, warning messages or transmission noise require diagnosis of the gearbox and its fluid condition. Replacing a drain plug alone does not repair internal wear, a control fault or an incorrect fluid level.
Installation and service notes
Follow the factory fluid service procedure for the DQ381 transmission fitted to the vehicle. Observe the specified vehicle support, fluid-temperature, access and draining steps. Identify the correct drain opening before loosening any plug.
Inspect the case threads and sealing seat without introducing debris into the gearbox. Use the specified sealing ring and confirm that the plug is the correct original number. Do not substitute the larger fill plug or an unrelated engine oil plug.
Start the plug by hand in undamaged threads and use the correct hex tool fully seated in the drive recess. Follow the tightening requirement and thread preparation prescribed for this exact service position. Do not transfer a torque value from another transmission plug.
If the plug does not seat normally, stop and inspect thread condition, selected hardware and sealing-ring placement. Excessive force cannot restore damaged threads or a distorted sealing surface.
Use only the specified transmission fluid and complete the factory filling, temperature-dependent level checks and operating checks. Inspect the serviced opening for leakage after assembly. This listing supplies one original plug with seal; obtain the fluid, filter and remaining service materials separately.
