OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi camshaft gear bolt, part number N-909-879-02. This original fastener secures the camshaft sprocket to the camshaft on the BPY FSI configurations below. One bolt is supplied.
Technical details
- Original number: N-909-879-02 / N90987902.
- Published nominal size: M10 x 1 x 35.
- External hex drive with a broad seating flange.
- Assigned application: camshaft sprocket-to-camshaft attachment on the FSI timing arrangement.
- Sprocket, timing belt, camshaft and other timing hardware are separate.
The fastener retains the sprocket at the camshaft connection as part of the engine timing assembly. Correct hardware and the prescribed assembly procedure are necessary to maintain the intended attachment. Match the engine code and original number; a matching diameter alone does not establish suitability for another camshaft or timing design.
This listing covers BPY FSI applications. Other 2.0T engines can use different timing arrangements and fasteners. Identify the installed engine and assigned bolt position before ordering.
Common reasons to replace
Inspect the bolt when the prescribed timing service requires removal of the camshaft sprocket or when repairing its attachment. Replace damaged threads, rounded wrenching flats, deformation or missing hardware. Renew removed fasteners whenever required by the applicable factory procedure.
Earlier timing repairs may leave an incorrect bolt or damaged drive surface. Compare the original fastener and inspect the sprocket seating arrangement before reassembly.
Timing faults, abnormal engine operation or noise require diagnosis of the complete timing system. A new bolt cannot repair a damaged sprocket, worn camshaft connection, incorrect belt timing, failed tensioner or damaged mating threads. Correct the diagnosed defect before completing the repair.
Installation and service notes
Follow the factory timing procedure for the BPY engine. Establish the required engine position and use the prescribed locking and counterholding tools before releasing the sprocket attachment. Do not rely on the timing belt to counterhold the sprocket unless the exact repair procedure explicitly specifies that method.
Inspect the camshaft connection, sprocket and seating surfaces. Confirm the original bolt number and prepare the threads as prescribed. Position the components correctly before starting the bolt by hand in undamaged threads.
Use the correct hex tool and approved counterholding method, then follow the factory tightening torque and any additional angle for this attachment. Observe the specified thread preparation and fastener replacement instructions.
Do not transfer a tightening value from a crankshaft bolt, chain-driven camshaft adjuster or unrelated M10 fastener. Do not use extra tightening force to compensate for damaged threads or an incorrectly seated sprocket.
Complete the required belt installation, tensioning and timing verification before starting the engine. Perform any prescribed manual rotation and recheck steps using the approved procedure. Reassemble the timing covers and related components, then complete the required operating checks.
This listing supplies one original camshaft gear bolt. Select the timing belt, tensioner, sprocket and other service components separately for the exact engine arrangement.
