OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi rear toe arm-to-knuckle bolt, part number N-911-978-01. This original fastener retains the rear toe arm at its knuckle connection on the specified later-production arrangement. One bolt is supplied.
Technical details
- Original number: N-911-978-01 / N91197801.
- Published nominal specification: M14 x 1.5 x 100.
- External hex head with washer, as pictured.
- Application: specified rear toe arm-to-knuckle connection.
- Production restriction: from September 4, 2012 for the confirmed Mk6 application.
- Arm, knuckle, nut and other mounting hardware are separate.
The rear toe arm is part of the suspension linkage that establishes the rear wheel's toe relationship. This bolt retains the arm at the knuckle end. The opposite attachment at the subframe uses its own prescribed hardware and is not interchangeable merely because it belongs to the same arm.
The Mk6 catalog identifies a production-date split for this connection. A model year alone does not resolve the correct bolt on vehicles near that change. Match the build date, actual arm and knuckle, and original fastener number before ordering.
Common reasons to replace
Inspect this bolt during rear toe arm replacement, knuckle service or repairs that require the connection to be released. Replace missing hardware or bolts with damaged threads, a rounded head, deformation or corrosion that prevents proper installation. Renew removed fasteners wherever the factory procedure requires it.
Earlier repairs can introduce the wrong length or thread into a mounting position. Compare the hardware with the specified arrangement rather than assuming a bolt that physically enters the hole is correct. Check the mating threads, nut and mounting surfaces at the same time.
Uneven tire wear, an alignment concern or suspension noise requires diagnosis of the complete rear suspension. A new bolt cannot repair a worn arm bushing, bent linkage, damaged knuckle or another suspension fault. Replace or repair the diagnosed component as required.
Installation and service notes
Follow the factory rear suspension procedure for the exact vehicle and production arrangement. Support the suspension components as directed before releasing their attachment points. Preserve or record the prescribed locating arrangement during removal.
Identify the toe arm-to-knuckle position separately from the subframe-side connection and nearby lower arm hardware. Confirm the production date and original number, then inspect the arm, mounting bore, washer seating area and mating hardware.
Fit the arm correctly and start the assigned fastener by hand. Do not use the bolt to pull a misaligned joint into position or force it through a damaged mounting point. Obtain any prescribed nut and other renewal hardware separately.
Follow the factory tightening sequence, torque, angle and required suspension position for the exact attachment. Observe any instructions about final tightening at a specified ride-height position. Do not substitute a general M14 torque value or a specification for a different arm connection.
If replacement arms or modified suspension components are fitted, confirm their verified hardware requirements. The original bolt number does not establish compatibility with every aftermarket arm or knuckle.
After reassembly, complete the prescribed rear suspension checks and alignment work required by the repair. Confirm the toe arm is properly secured and all disturbed connections have their assigned hardware before returning the vehicle to service.
