OVERVIEW
Factory locating hardware for the assigned belt connection
N-989-509-02 is the Genuine VW/Audi locating bolt specified at the assigned seat belt mounting and guide connection on the listed New Beetle Convertible applications.
The locating design and bearing arrangement are part of the original restraint mounting connection. Select this complete number and its assigned washer and guide components rather than substituting a general-purpose bolt.
Technical details
- Complete factory number: N-989-509-02.
- Factory specification: 7/16–20 x 30 mm factory designation.
- Design: hexagon-head locating bolt with a shouldered section and threaded end.
- Quantity supplied: one individual bolt.
The designation identifies a 7/16-inch nominal thread diameter with 20 threads per inch and a 30 mm catalog length. This is an inch-thread fastener; an M10 or M12 bolt is not an equivalent substitute.
Common reasons to replace
- The original locating bolt is missing after belt or interior service.
- Threads are damaged or cross-threaded.
- The locating shoulder or bearing surface is damaged.
- Corrosion or a damaged hexagon prevents correct tightening.
- The original connection has incorrect replacement hardware.
Inspect the belt assembly, guide, washer and body anchorage before installation. After a collision, follow the complete restraint-system inspection and replacement procedure; replacing this bolt alone does not establish that the belt system is serviceable.
Vehicle fitment
Match the convertible body and exact restraint connection. The hatchback and other belt positions can use different hardware.

Installation guidance
Follow the factory restraint-system service instructions for the exact vehicle and mounting position. Install the specified washer and guide arrangement, start the threads by hand and tighten to the prescribed torque. Renew hardware wherever the procedure requires replacement.
Verify correct belt routing, unrestricted movement, secure anchorage and normal latch operation. Do not return the vehicle to use with damaged belt components or anchorage threads.
