OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi drivetrain sealing O-ring
WHT-005-158 is the original sealing O-ring specified at the assigned drivetrain interfaces in the applications below. Its factory size designation is 25 × 2. The receiving shaft, flange or differential arrangement determines the correct installation point.
The ring is sold individually. A transfer case or differential can contain several seals of different sizes and types. This O-ring is separate from the adjacent 28 × 2 ring, protective rings, retaining circlips and radial shaft seals shown in the original assemblies.
Technical details and supplied quantity
- Manufacturer part number: WHT-005-158; compact reference WHT005158.
- Brand: Genuine VW/Audi.
- Component: drivetrain sealing O-ring.
- Original catalog size designation: 25 × 2.
- Confirmed application types: assigned 0BU transfer-case seal point and the listed original Q7 differential outer seal-ring location.
- Quantity: one individual ring. Other seals, shafts, flanges, circlips and assemblies are separate.
Match the full part number and receiving interface before installation. Similar-looking rings may have a different section or diameter, and a radial shaft seal performs a different sealing function. Model and engine alone do not make every drivetrain seal interchangeable.
Common reasons to replace
- The ring is damaged, cut or distorted during disassembly of its assigned joint.
- The original seal is missing during drivetrain service.
- Inspection identifies deterioration at the specified sealing interface.
- The applicable repair procedure requires renewal when the joint is opened.
Diagnose leakage at the actual component before selecting parts. A new O-ring will not repair a damaged shaft, worn radial seal, cracked housing or failed bearing. Inspect the mating components and replace the separately specified parts required for the repair.
Vehicle fitment
Use the ring only at the exact sealing location assigned WHT005158. The table distinguishes the transfer-case and differential applications rather than treating the ring as a universal seal for every driveline joint.
| Vehicle | Model years | Engine | Configuration | Application restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volkswagen Touareg | 2011–2017 | 3.6L FSI gasoline VR6 | 7P SUV; 4Motion; 8-speed automatic; original 0BU transfer-case arrangement | Assigned 25 × 2 O-ring location in the original 0BU transfer case. Match the receiving shaft/flange and case specification. The separate 28 × 2 ring and radial shaft seals are not interchangeable. One ring supplied. |
| Volkswagen Touareg | 2011–2016 | 3.0L TDI diesel V6; CATA/CNRB where assigned | 7P SUV; 4Motion; 8-speed automatic; original 0BU transfer-case arrangement | Assigned 25 × 2 O-ring location in the original 0BU transfer case. Match the receiving shaft/flange and case specification. This row does not establish interchange at a rear final-drive seal specified for a different engine or housing. One ring supplied. |
| Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid | 2011–2015 | 3.0L supercharged TFSI gasoline V6 with electric drive; CGEA/CGFA where assigned | 7P Hybrid SUV; 4Motion; 8-speed automatic; original hybrid 0BU transfer-case arrangement | Only the assigned 25 × 2 O-ring point in the original hybrid transfer case. Match the original housing and full seal number; not a general hybrid-system seal. One ring supplied. |
| Audi Q7 | 2011–2015 | 3.0L supercharged TFSI gasoline V6 | 4L SUV; quattro; 8-speed automatic; original differential assembly | Only the outer seal-ring location identified as WHT005158 in the original differential assembly. Match the installed differential and shaft interface. Other inner/side/radial seals are separate; this row does not assign the ring to a six-speed propeller-shaft arrangement. One ring supplied. |
Installation and service guidance
Follow the factory procedure for the specific transfer-case or differential operation. Support the associated drivetrain components, keep the work area clean and prevent contamination of open housings or bearing surfaces.
Inspect the receiving groove and mating interface before fitting the correct ring. Install it without twisting, cutting or trapping it, using the lubrication and assembly method prescribed for that operation. Renew any other seals, retaining parts and hardware required by the procedure.
If fluid is drained or lost, restore the correct fluid and complete the prescribed filling and level checks for that assembly. Verify the joint for leakage and perform the required operational checks after reassembly. Other driveline faults require separate diagnosis.
