OVERVIEW
Genuine VW/Audi Front Ball Joint and Tie Rod Lock Nut
WHT-006-902 is the genuine self-locking hexagonal collar nut used at assigned front suspension and steering stud connections. It secures the specified lower ball-joint or outer tie-rod attachment where the factory assembly calls for this exact number. Its collar provides the original bearing profile for the mating connection.
One individual nut is supplied per purchased unit, as shown in the original photograph. The ball joint, control arm, tie-rod end, steering knuckle and other hardware are sold separately. Order the quantity required for the particular repair.
Technical details
- OEM number: WHT-006-902 / WHT006902.
- Thread specification: M14x1.5.
- Design: Self-locking hexagonal collar nut.
- Confirmed roles: Assigned lower ball-joint-to-knuckle and outer tie-rod stud connections.
- Quantity: One nut per purchased unit.
Other nuts in the same front suspension assembly can have different threads and locking profiles. The nominal M14 thread alone does not establish interchangeability. Match the factory stud position, thread pitch and full nut assignment.
The original catalog changes the relevant assignment from WHT-003-948 to WHT-006-902 at production September 4, 2013. This date distinction must be checked before choosing hardware for an earlier vehicle; do not assume the later number automatically replaces every earlier application.
Common reasons to replace
Replace the nut when the factory procedure requires new self-locking hardware after the connection is disturbed. Replacement is also appropriate when the hexagon, threads, collar or locking features are damaged or can no longer secure the specified attachment correctly.
Inspect the stud and mating connection before installing a new nut. Damaged stud threads, excessive ball-joint or tie-rod wear, a distorted seating surface or an incorrect replacement component requires its own correction. New fastening hardware does not repair a worn joint or damaged steering knuckle.
Fitment
The table identifies confirmed later factory nut assignments. Match the production date and specific stud connection before ordering.
| Vehicle | Model years | Engine | Configuration | Application restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volkswagen Touareg | 2014–2015 | 3.6L gasoline VR6 | 7P SUV; front lower ball-joint / outer tie-rod nut positions assigned this number; 8-speed automatic; 4Motion | Original factory M14x1.5 nut assignment from production September 4, 2013. Match the specific lower ball-joint or outer tie-rod stud and factory nut number. Earlier WHT003948 positions require separate replacement confirmation. One nut supplied. |
| Volkswagen Touareg | 2014–2015 | 3.0L TDI diesel V6 | 7P SUV; front lower ball-joint / outer tie-rod nut positions assigned this number; 8-speed automatic; 4Motion | Original factory M14x1.5 nut assignment from production September 4, 2013. Match the specific lower ball-joint or outer tie-rod stud and factory nut number. Earlier WHT003948 positions require separate replacement confirmation. One nut supplied. |
| Volkswagen Touareg | 2016–2017 | 3.6L FSI gasoline VR6; CGRA | 7P SUV; front lower ball-joint / outer tie-rod nut positions assigned this number; 8-speed automatic; 4Motion | Original M14 × 1.5 self-locking nut at the assigned front ball-joint or outer tie-rod stud only. Match the original catalog number and fitted stud. Other M12 and M24 nuts in the same assembly are separate. One nut supplied. |
| Volkswagen Touareg | 2016 | 3.0L TDI diesel V6; CNRB | 7P SUV; original outer tie-rod end attachment; 8-speed automatic; 4Motion | Outer tie-rod end nut assigned WHT006902 only. Match the original M14 × 1.5 stud and factory number. This row does not broaden every lower ball-joint nut location. One nut supplied. |
Installation and suspension service guidance
Follow the factory procedure for the exact ball-joint or tie-rod connection. Support the vehicle and affected suspension components as prescribed and use the specified tools when releasing a tapered stud.
Inspect the stud threads and seating surfaces. Install the correct replacement self-locking nut and use any specified stud counter-hold method. Tighten the connection to the factory torque and angle requirements for that particular position; different connections can have different procedures.
After assembly, verify secure attachment and restore the disturbed components in the specified sequence. Complete any required alignment check after steering or suspension work and confirm normal operation. Renew any additional hardware required by the applicable service procedure.
